Session 5: How Fair is Your Grading? Strategies for Grading Consistently and Without Bias

    Wed, Oct. 16, 2024

    11:30 – 1:00

    Rm.182, Armory Bldg

    • “Is your grading consistent?”
    •  “What kind of feedback is helpful?”
    • “If you have TAs, how are their grading?”
    • “Do you know how to prevent complaints about your grading?”

The task of assessing and grading student learning is one of the most complex and stressful responsibilities of the faculty member and, at the same time, one of the most important. It is critical that the grading process is fair, reliable, valid, and relevant so that the resulting grade is an accurate representation of a student’s achievement. When done properly, the grade and accompanying feedback are additional teaching opportunities where students can improve their learning.

In this highly interactive session, we will practice a grading method so that our grading is fair, consistent, and manageable, in addition to learning how to provide effective feedback to our students.
